DISNEY CLOSES LUCASARTS, STAR WARS 1313 AND FRONTAL ASSAULT CANCELLED
Disney has closed the doors on LucasArts and transformed their business model to only licensing games.
With the shutdown of LucasArts brings the cancellation of Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars Frontal Assault.
While many may only remember LucasArts for their Star Wars games, for many gamers, myself included, LucasArts will be missed for their games like Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango.
According to Kotaku, staff were informed this morning and up to 150 people were laid off.
This statement was also issued by Disney:
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
