ART SELECTIONS FROM ROSE CITY COMIC CON
This weekend was the first annual (hopefully!?!) Rose City Comic Con here in Portland, OR. There was a mix of everything from the various corners of pop culture and I went to find some great art in the artist alley.
Here is a small selection of some art that caught my eye and I bought from two artists there. Cat Farris had a bunch of amazing prints featuring games like Portal (with an adorable Chell eating cake while sitting on a Companion Cube) but I really fell for her original art takes on Angry Birds and Dead Space.
Commercial artist Ron Chan was also there and he had these amazing Mario art pieces. The Mario Bros. piece caught my eye and immediately had me remembering staying up late at night playing my NES. I could swear I was hearing the soundtrack to Super Mario Bros. while was looking over the art print.
While I was looking through his prints I found this Mario/Memorex mashup that was 80’s, iconic and too awesome to pass up. Looking at it makes me wish there was an art show devoted to mashing up video games characters and famous ad campaigns.
